It’s impossible to safeguard all vulnerable people from all possible all risks. However it is not impossible for authorities to hold their hands-up and admit to making mistakes when they know they have. What is sleazy and failing to protect the vulnerable public and unacceptable is the recurring conduct of public senior managers who manipulate facts and events to protect their own careers and often going to great extremes to do so. This fails to hold the correct senior managers and services to account and fails to ensure the correct changes are robustly made. Everything becomes distorted when safeguarding in fact becomes safeguarding the unacceptable sleazy culture of saving their reputations rather than admit to failures. It’s perverse and ethically if not legally dubious ground and creates a deeply distasteful working culture and environment. It can only change from the top down!
To date the government inspectorates fail to take strong action and governing professional bodies fail to struck-off those individuals that bring their service and profession into disrepute. Whistleblowing becomes redundant for the bold who wish to retain professional integrity and justice for the vulnerable public and senior managers become more belligerent and bullying towards those that dare to voice.
So who is going to safeguard the vulnerable professionals trying to do their jobs under substantial pressure if the government inspectors decline to act and the local authorities cover their backs? Is the media the only sanctuary where injustice and sleazy public service managers will be exposed?
